“Whenever some fool goes on about the death of jazz, play that misguided soul some of the latest album from New York bassist Ben Allison. This is assuredly jazz that deconstructs all influences, with harmonic chromaticism in an intriguing dialogue with hummable modal melodies.” ~LA Times

Bassist, bandleader, composer and educator Ben Allison is known for his inspired arrangements, inventive grooves, and memorable melodies. Since 1991 he has recorded over 40+ albums, 11 as a leader, and 7 which reached #1 on the US jazz charts. He has worked hard to create his own, unique sound in jazz which draws on a range of influences from rock and folk to 20th century classical and world music traditions. The JazzTimes calls him, “a visionary composer, adventurous improviser, and strong organizational force on the New York City jazz scene”. We enjoyed his playing so much last year with saxophonist Michael Blake that we had to bring him back for more. Featuring Ben Allison (bass), Kirk Knuffke (cornet), Steve Cardenas (guitar), Allan Mednard (drums)
