Event Notes

× CapU Jazz Series presents Rhythm Fever, three exciting bands, whose members include Capilano University Jazz Studies students and faculty, live on the BlueShore stage (at Capilano University, 2055 Purcell Way, North Vancouver), Friday, February 4.

Directed by David Robbins, Kenté (the Ghanaian word for woven cloth) is an upbeat ensemble that interweaves the rhythm and melodies of many musical genres from around the globe. Narwhal is a large ensemble combining instrumental and vocal musicians. Directed by Jared Burrows, the ensemble often features student compositions and arrangements and is known for exploring the outer reaches of jazz and its intersections with music from other genres. Percussion Ensemble, directed by Robbins and Kofi Gbolonyo, is comprised of all current drummers/percussionists in the Jazz Studies program. The ensemble explores rhythmic sounds and timbres from many eras and around the world.

Esteemed Capilano University faculty members performing with the three groups include Burrows, Gbolonyo and Robbins, as well as Steve Kaldestad, Brad Turner and Jennifer Scott.
