A celebration of the fathers of bebop featuring the CapU jazz ensembles and faculty guests.

Legendary jazz saxophonist Charlie “Bird” Parker and trumpeter Dizzy “Diz” Gillespie were the founding fathers of a radical new form of jazz. Characterized by its blazing fast tempos, dynamic harmonies and demand for a virtuosic knowledge of scales, bebop jazz blew in like a hurricane from Bird and Diz’s torrent of improvisations and extended solos. Alongside Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk and Fats Navarro, Bird and Diz were giants at the forefront of this revolution. In this special tribute, the CapU jazz ensembles will salute these two iconic musicians whose legacy redefined jazz for generations to come.
