The millennial “shaking up the jazz word” [Vanity Fair], Bria Skonberg’s mix of smooth vocals, snazzy trumpet melodies, and synthesis of classic and new have made her a strong force in jazz. An alumna of Capilano University’s jazz studies degree program, Bria Skonberg found her groove balancing a full road schedule for two bands while still at school. Now based in New York and playing internationally, she started off playing with Vancouver’s King of Swing Dal Richards and performing at BC Place Stadium for the 2010 Olympics Winter Games in Vancouver. Her 2016 album, Bria, won a Juno for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year and was followed up with 2017’s With a Twist, featuring original compositions as well as distinctive twists on many jazz classics, including a striking cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Dance Me to the End of Love.”
