Join us in Wonderland, where fantastical characters confront the plucky Alice, and help her to stand on her own feet amidst a world in turmoil.
Alice by Heart is set in London, during the Blitz of World War II. Alice Spencer’s life is in shambles, and she, her childhood friend Alfred, and a group of misfits are forced to take shelter in an underground tube station. As Alfred’s health deteriorates, Alice takes him on a fantastical journey down the rabbit hole to Wonderland. There, the group in the tube station have transformed into characters from their favourite book, who challenge them in their quest.
This newest musical, by the writing team of Steven Sater, Duncan Sheik (Spring Awakening) and Jesse Nelson (Waitress), examines the tentative exploration of a first love, coming to terms with losing those closest to you, and daring to stand your ground in the face of adversity. This musical encourages us all to celebrate the transformational influence of the imagination, even when life seems bleak.
