Marc Ribot is an exceptionally gifted guitarist and artist, whose musical muse drives his sound on all kinds of adventures, diving into jazz, punk, blues, funk, reggae, avant-garde and spoken word. He’s the “beyond” in the section tagline, “Jazz, Blues & Beyond.” This is especially true with his long-time trio Ceramic Dog, with Shahzad Ismaily on bass and keyboards, and Ches Smith on drums, percussion and electronics. Their anything-goes sensibility allows them to morph into any style - yet Ribot always comes out sounding only like himself, which is central to the jazz aesthetic.

PopMatters writes: “The scary thing about Marc Ribot and his band is that all of these styles and quirks are pulled off so convincingly,” while All Music says, “this band can do nearly anything.”

Ribot’s diversity and guitar mastery make him a go-to collaborator, most notably for Tom Waits, Elvis Costello and John Zorn.

"Marc Ribot's Ceramic Dog, whose style is experimental...though much more pleasing on the ears, was one of the best surprises of the festival." - AV Club review of All Tomorrow's Parties Festival 2011 curated by Portishead

“They’ve fine-tuned their knack for disparate styles to create truly unique music that’s fun, funny, and still often virtuosic. Moreover, it makes you think.” - Something Else
